Our dog Cookie
1.5 years ago, we tried to find a dog to give a second chance through Dogs around the world foundation.
Through the internet, we searched for a shelter dog that would fit into our young family.
Through the foundation, we found Cookie from Lefkas. A beautiful female dog who had already been through a lot in her young life. After we expressed our interest, we started talking to the foundation. The people from the foundation were loving towards the dogs and went to see with us whether Cookie would fit in with our family. After talking and meeting Cookie, we were very excited and hoped Cookie would want to join our family. About 2 weeks later, we were allowed to pick up our beautiful dog.
Cookie has now been with us for 1 year and 3 months and has also celebrated her second birthday with us. This week (26 May 2023), together with our children aged 3 and 5, we went to visit the shelter in Lefkas where they took Cookie in and cared for her. During our visit, we felt the warmth for the animals. We saw people who cared for the dogs with warmth and love and gave the animals the attention they deserve. During our conversation with one of the owners of the shelter, we found out how well the people remembered our dog. They described the dog’s character and spoke fondly about her, something that made us feel very good.
We admire the people at this shelter and hope to inspire people to also want to give a dog a second chance. Cookie has given our family a lot of beauty. She shows the joy and is so loving towards the children. The most important thing for her is to give her attention and a safe place. Caring for an animal with trauma requires patience and warmth from you but what you get in return is beyond price.
We are grateful and hope to enjoy our beautiful dog for many years to come.
